Owls Targeting All-State Kicker

Just after completing a solid performance at the US Army All-American Bowl, Chris Boswell got more good news Monday night...

The Rice Owls offered standout Kicker Chris Boswell a scholarship Monday night.

Boswell has a twice been named All-State Kicker at Keller Fossil Ridge, near Dallas. In 2007 he was named Second Team All-State for then 4A Keller Fossil Ridge. This year he moved to the front of the pack, being named First Team 5A All-State.

Boswell had an outstanding performance as senior, connecting on 9 Field Goals including one from 51 yards, and also 3 from 47 yards out. He was perfect on extra points, hitting 27-of-27. In fact, he hasn't missed an extra point in high school since becoming the starting varsity Kicker as a freshman.

The 6-3 Boswell was also honored recently by being selected to play in the US Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio last weekend. Boswell won the Kicking Competition for all specialists invited to the elite event. He also averaged over 4.0 seconds in hangtime on his kickoffs.

Already holding an offer from North Texas, the offer from the Owls also puts Rice at the top of Boswell's list.

I spoke to Chris Monday night just moments after he had gotten his offer.

"Well obviously they've offered me so I'm strongly considering them. They were waiting on another Kicker from Alabama to make a decision and he just committed somewhere else. I really like Rice, they have a program that's up and coming."

I also asked if a Rice visit was in the works for Boswell.

"I don't have one scheduled with them yet. Rice coaches are supposed to come by to see me sometime this week and discuss that."

Though Boswell is excited to have more options he isn't ready to make a decision just yet.

"I probably won't make a decison until later this month. I'm a Kicker so schools kind of offer my position last."

Boswell has visited Texas Tech, and is also being recruited by Texas A&M.
