Owls Land WR Moore

The Rice Owls had a banner year on the field in 2008. That success has arguably contributed to enhancing their recruiting efforts as well. Early on in 2009 it looks like the Owls' momentum is still growing as Thursday night the Owls landed one of the fastest players in the State of Texas...

Donte Moore decided he had seen enough.

After taking an official visit to Rice last weekend Donte came away very enthused. His mother was equally as impressed.

Tonight, Donte followed his heart and became a Rice Owl.

I called Donte to check in on him Thursday night and he surprised me.

"I have some good news - I just committed to Rice about 30 minutes ago."

Rice Coach Blake Miller has been recruiting Moore and got the call Thursday night.

"I called Coach Miller and he just went crazy saying how great it was for me to commit. He was saying all kinds of stuff. He said would be back to see me as soon as he could."

The 6-2 Moore gives the Owls great size, but also blinding speed at a position they are seeking to restock with the departures of Jarett Dillard and James Casey. He was timed at the University of Texas last spring at 4.32 seconds in the 40 yard dash.

Not surprisingly, Donte also runs track for Manor competing in the 400 meters, and also the 400 meter relay.

Moore has cancelled his visit to TCU this weekend.

Welcome to Rice, Donte!
