Night Of The Iron Owl

Rice Football wraps up off-season strength and conditioning this week as they look ahead to 2009 Spring Drills, which begin March 9th. Thursday night at the John L. Cox Fitness Center several Owls will put their strength prowess on display...

Last year's inaugural "Night Of The Iron Owl" was a spririted event witnessed by several hundred Owl fans. Rice gridiron stars like Scott Solomon, Andrew Sendejo, Chris Ptaszek and even Chase Clement wowed the Rice faithful in attendance with their strength in the three basic lifts of football strength training: the Squat, the Power Clean, and everyone's favorite, the Bench Press.

Solomon and Sendejo will be back again Thursday night joined by several other Owl "strongmen". Here's a tentative list of those competing:

Power Clean

Travis Bradshaw - 6-1 200, Safety

Tomorrow night's event begins around 6:30 pm. Seating is limited so come early to get a good seat and prepare to cheer your Owls on to new heights in lifting!
