Owls Expect Big Turnout For "Iron Owl"

Fresh off a 10-3 season the Rice Owls are hoping their success from last year gives them a little extra momentum as recruiting for 2010 kicks in to high gear. Early feedback has been very positive, and tonight the Owls are expecting unofficial visits from some of the area's top 2010 talent for the "Night Of the Iron Owl"...

Though Rice's first Junior Day is a little over a month away, the Owls are fully engaged in the recruiting process for next year's class. They have a lot to build on. Since the 2008 season, Rice has added a lot more positives for the next group of Rice Owls to consider:

**Head Coach David Bailiff - named 2008 C-USA Coach of the Year after leading the Owls to a 10-3 season and a Texas Bowl victory. Just signed a 5 year contract extension.

**James Casey and Jarett Dillard just wowed scouts at the Indianapolis Combine by running, jumping, and lifting their way to improved draft status in the upcoming NFL Draft. Both are products of the renowned Rice Strength and Conditioning Program, and the record setting Rice Owl Offense.

**Rice added 4 new coaches to its dynamic coaching staff (the hardest working, nicest bunch in the business!) this spring - and each brings years of experience from the highest levels of football; including NFL, CFL, and BCS College Football. The current staff is one of the most talented and charismatic Rice has ever had.

**The Owls just signed their highest ranked recruiting class in school history, whose 24 members will join an ever growing talent base already on campus to make the 2009 Rice Football Team perhaps the most talented ever.

**Rice Athletic Director Chris Del Conte is putting the finishing touches on a $50 million dollar end-zone expansion project that will provide the Owls with state-of-the-art facilities to include new locker rooms, players' lounges, football offices, and a new football only strength and conditioning facility. Construction is believed to begin immediately after the 2009 season.

So, with a whole lot to get excited about for Rice Football some of the area's top recruits have called Rice coaches to let them know they'll be in attendance at tonight's "Iron Owl" event to be held at the John L. Cox Fitness Center.

Here's a few of the names that have committed to being on campus tonight...

Fort Bend Kempner Running Back Josh Bell...

Fort Bend Hightower standouts and former teammates of 2009 signee Alex Francis, Shaun Lewis (4-Star LB!), highly recruited Safety Harvey Jackson, and DE/LB Uchenna Nwabuike...

The outstanding threesome of Safety Sam Holl, Offensive Tackle Shep Klinke, and Tight End Zach Swanson from the State Champion Katy Tigers...

Also joining Klinke is an additional list of big, athletic Offensive Linemen; highly sought Carter Lees of Fort Bend Kempner, Eli Dickerson of College Park, Tyler Brown of Elkins, Zach Bolton of Klein Forest, and Andrew Hall of Cy-Woods...

Rice will take 3 Linebackers in the Class of 2010 and joining the highly recruited Shaun Lewis will be James Radcliffe of Cinco Ranch, Cameron Nwosu of Klein Forest (could also play Safety), Lowell Williams of Fort Bend Marshall, Campbell Colyer of Stratford, and Efrem Oliphant of Langham Creek.

Maybe the area's most productive Receiver over the last two seasons Tomball's Jordan Leslie will be in attendance tonight. Joining him will be a handful of other Greater Houston standouts - Randy Knust of The Woodlands, Kevin Johnson of Cy-Ridge, and Kenneth Bibbons of Fort Bend Kempner...

Tight Ends Matt Marfisi of Tomball and Trent Guiberteau of Katy Taylor will be in attendance...

Defensive Linemen Robert Scarpati of Cy-Ridge, Jared Baker of Cy-Woods, and Chris Mallott of the Woodlands have all indicated they will be at the event...

And finally, top shelf Defensive Backs Adrian Bennett and Damian Payne from Klein Forest will attend, along with Cornerback Bryce Callahan of Cy-Woods, and a large contingent from up I-45 at Willis: Brent Walters, DeVante Graham, Evan Hollis, and Cody Young.

Should be a great time for all - come on out. The event will start around 6:45, but seats will go quickly...
