Rice Looking In Backyard

With Brain Raines and Vernon James departing, and potential starters Terrance Garmon and Robert Calhoun entering their final seasons, Rice is searching for linebacking talent to bolster their improving Defense...

Even with limited scholarships to give for the Class of 2010, Rice is looking to take as many as 3 Linebackers in their next recruiting class.

Fortunately for the Owls, the State's Class of 2010 is a good one for Linebackers. While evaluating the state for prospects, they discovered several good ones right here in Houston.

District 23-5A in particular is where one of the state's finest - Hightower's Shaun Lewis, who already holds offers from over 15 schools including Rice, and is also where Fort Bend Marshall's Lowell Williams plays. Williams is a Rice target as well.

But beyond Lewis and Williams, it's also home to several other really good defenders, like Fort Bend Clements' Ray Oppman.

The 6-2 205 pound Oppman is a sideline-to-sideline player; perfect for the Owls' 4-2-5 Defense.

As the two sides are getting better acquainted, we'll stay in touch with Oppman who attended the Owls' Iron Owl weigthlifting event earlier this month and has been in regular contact with Rice coaches.

Check out this talented linebacker's highlights here and you'll see why he's being targeted by several colleges including Rice...
