Six Future Owls Chosen As All-Stars

While several have trumpeted the 2009 Rice Owl Football Signing Class as the school's best, at least in recent memory, the fact that 6 of them have been chosen to play in the THSCA All-Star Game this summer makes an even louder statement for that opinion...

Rosters for this year's Texas High School All-Star Game were published today and 6 Rice Owls have been chosen to play in this summer's game.

The game will be played on Tuesday July 21st this year at DKR-Memorial Stadium in Austin. Kickoff is 7:30 pm and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.

The THSCA All-Star Game is the grand-daddy of all for all-star games in Texas. It matches players from all classifications in a North vs. South contest. It highlights one of the largest high school coaching conventions in the world, held each July in Texas.

The following future Rice Owls have been selected to play in the game:

North Team

#25 Chris Boswell - K/P, 6-3 195 Keller Fossil Ridge

#75 Alex Lowry - OL/DL, 6-2 301 Caddo Mills

South Team

#32 Broderick Jackson - RB/DB, 6-0 212, Kirbyville

#45 Nic Hammett - TE/LB, 6-4 239, Rockdale

#74 Cade Shaw - OL, 6-5 280, Corpus Christi Calallen

#76 Jon Hodde - OT, 6-7 300, Burton

Nic Hammett had this to say about the game and being selected.

"It's just real cool and a great honor. I'm really proud of all my future teammates for being selected. I think we'll have a lot of fun that week!"

The number of Owls chosen to play in this year's game is the most anyone can recall since records have been kept of the event, and speaks loudly once again to the quality of recruits Rice is bringing into the program under the direction of David Bailiff.

Last year, Xavier Webb was the lone Owl playing in the THSCA game.

Congratulations to all players slected for this tremendous honor!
