Baker Heating Up

San Antonio MacArthur Safety Gabe Baker is quickly becoming a valued recruiting commodity. The hard hitting defender recently picked up his third scholarship offer...

We've been talking a lot recently about San Antonio MacArthur's Gabe Baker. He is one of the Owl's prime targets at Safety. Rice is battling several other programs for the talented Baker, including one Big 12 school who's recently joined the fray.

Rice hasn't offered Baker yet, but appears to be one of the San Antonio headhunter's finalists for his signature. The other appears to be Texas A&M, whom Baker also mentioned in an Owl Digest interview a couple weeks ago. The Ags are the latest to offer Baker, but appear to be full at his position and are pushing the talented star to consider a "grayshirt" option; meaning he would not enroll in College Station until January 2011.

For a player with Baker's talent, the proposition of sitting out of football for a year can't be too appealing. On the other hand, he would likely play as a freshman at Rice.

He currently holds offers from Texas A&M, Tulsa, and SMU.

He has visited both Rice and A&M unofficially and is mulling over his options at present. An offer from Rice appears to be imminent.

Check out Baker's hard-hitting style here and you can see why the Owls covet his aggressive style of play for their 4-2-5 Defense.
