ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Cappie Pondexter scored 13 of her 21 points in the last 11 minutes, and Rutgers overcame an eight-minute scoreless drought in the second half to beat Western Kentucky 64-52 in the first round of the NCAA women's Midwest Regional on Saturday.
Pondexter added 10 rebounds, five assists and six steals, and Chelsea Newton scored 14 points for fourth-seeded Rutgers (21-7).
The Scarlet Knights will face the winner of the Georgia-Charlotte game on Monday.
Leslie Logsdon scored 13 points for Western Kentucky (22-9).
Western Kentucky overcame a 31-23 halftime deficit by scoring 11 straight points early in the second half. Rutgers countered with an 11-0 run and scored 11 unanswered points later in the half to help clinch the win.
Rutgers was held to three points the first nine minutes of the second half. After Michelle Campbell scored inside with 18:40 left to give Rutgers a 34-25 lead, the Scarlet Knights didn't score again until Pondexter's basket with 10:53 remaining.
