Lewis Says Whether Commitment Could Come

St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) center Greg Lewis begins his official visit to Rutgers today. With an already stellar class on board, coach Mike Rice is trying to add a true center, and Lewis fits that bill. However, is Lewis primed to commit during the visit? He spoke to ScarletReport.com about whether that could happen, and what other official visits he has already set up.

Rutgers coach Mike Rice already put together a stunning recruiting class filled with four-star players, but the glaring need now is the finish it off with a center.

That chance begins today when St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) center Greg Lewis starts his 48-hour official visit to Rutgers, and he told ScarletReport.com he could commit at the end of it.

Lewis, who is 6-foot-8, 225 pounds, trimmed his list to Rutgers, South Florida, Indiana, UNC-Wilmington and Maryland. This is his first official visit, and it could be his last.

"I think if everything goes well and my family thinks it's the best place, I think I will (commit)," Lewis said. "I'm really open to everything. I'm really open to all the five schools. I'm trying to get the decision over with as quick as possible. So, I think if I find the right place, I'll commit."

Lewis visited Rutgers unofficially in the summer, and in July he told ScarletReport.com he liked the intensity of the pickup games and was looking for a strong alumni base to help him land a job in sports management after graduation.

He has a visit to South Florida planned for next weekend, but his focus is on Rutgers, a school he researched the last few months.

"I learned a lot. The basketball program is a growing program," Lewis said. "They haven't had much success in the years before, but they're definitely a growing program."

With six commitments already, it is clear Rice is trying to rebuild the Scarlet Knights quickly. But what does Lewis think of being part of a rebuilding process?

"It's good," he said. "I would want to be a part of that."

Also aiding the Scarlet Knights is Lewis' relationships with a few of the committed players.

"I know a few of the guys that are committed," Lewis said. "I know (wing) Malick Kone and I played with (point guard) Myles Mack. I'm familiar with (assistant) coach (David) Cox. He and I have a pretty decent relationship."

If Lewis doesn't commit to Rutgers, he plans on making other trips.

"I haven't been to Indiana or UNC-Wilmington," Lewis said. "I have set up dates yet, but I do plan on going there."
