Jones Looking At Visits; Where does RU Stand?

Raines High (Jacksonville) defensive lineman Chris Jones is yet to take an official visit, but he knows one school he is definitely visiting. Jones spoke about that school, as well as talked to about other potential visits, how he is approaching the recruiting process and much more. Come inside and check the latest on Jones' recruitment.

Jacksonville was very good to Rutgers in the 2010 class, and the Scarlet Knights are hopeful that will be the case again in 2011.

Edward H. White offensive tackle Kaleb Johnson is making an official visit to Rutgers this weekend, and Raines High defensive lineman Chris Jones is in the process of scheduling an official visit in January.

"Rutgers is a great school. I might take a visit up there," Jones said. "I got off the phone with them earlier (Sunday) night. They're recruiting me to play defensive line. (Assistant) Coach (Ed) Pinkham is coming down to see me Tuesday."

Jones, who is 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, isn't just giving lip-service about Rutgers. He grew up in New York, and has plenty of family in New Jersey and New York.

"I don't have any visits set up yet," Jones said. "I'm really trying to surprise a lot of people. I'm going to take some visits and decide from there. It's not what (other people) want, it's going to be what I want, and when I want to make a decision."

Jones is also looking at North Carolina, Miami, Boise State, Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn. "I'll probably take three or four visits," said Jones, who knows one place he is definitively visiting. "North Carolina. I'm going to take a visit there. The rest of them I have to see, but the one I know I'm going to take is North Carolina."

Jones made an unofficial trek to Chapel Hill, N.C., to watch the Tar Heels play Clemson earlier this season, and came away very impressed.

"It's wonderful," he said. "People treat you like family up there, like they care. It's not only about football. It's about education and family."

Jones is versatile and athletic, which is why Southern Miss and Georgia Tech are recruiting him to play offensive line. But he is clear about his preference.

"Both of them are fun, but I'm a defensive lineman," Jones said. "I'm a defensive lineman."

He plans on making a decision on signing day.
