QB Nova Commits to Rutgers

Rutgers picked up its second quarterback of the recruiting class when Gary Nova gave coach Greg Schiano a non-binding oral commitment, according to his father.

Rutgers got a quarterback commitment Monday when Don Bosco Prep's Gary Nova gave a non-binding oral commitment to play for the Scarlet Knights.

Asked if Nova called the Scarlet Knights coaching staff to give his pledge, his father, George, confirmed it.

"Yes he did," Nova said. "Basically, he felt it was the right fit for him now, and the hiring of (offensive coordinator Frank) Cignetti, who was going to be his coach at Pitt."

Cignetti was hired by Rutgers coach Greg Schiano last week.

"He felt he didn't want to wait any further," George Nova said. "When Tom Savage transferred out, it hopefully opens the door a little more for him to play."

Nova is Rutgers' second quarterback commitment of the class, joining Manalapan High's (Englishtown, N.J.) Mike Bimonte, who told ScarletReport.com Sunday night he was in favor of bringing a second quarterback into the class.

"We needed another quarterback in my class, regardless," Bimonte said. "If Chas (Dodd) gets hurt and I'm the backup, then you're basically one play away from your season going down the drain completely. I know they needed another quarterback, and I'm going to have to compete with him anyway."

ScarletReport.com will have more shortly on this developing situation.
