Stock Report: Rutgers' Remaining Targets

National Letter of Intent signing day is approaching, and Rutgers' recruiting class is filling up quickly with major prospects. However, there are still a handful of recruits on the board, and is providing its final "Stock Report" on the targets remaining on the board.

It is eight days until National Letter of Intent day, and the way Rutgers finished the 2010 recruiting and bang the Rutgers is getting this week in the form of four-star commitments the last two days, it is shaping up to be another wild finish.

With slightly more than a week to go, there are five uncommitted targets on Rutgers' board, including arguably the highest-profile recruit in school history in five-star running back Savon Huggins of St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.)

So, with decisions coming fast and furious, and with announcement dates approaching, provides its final stock report leading up to Feb. 2.

Player: Savon Huggins
School: St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City, N.J.)
Position:Running back
Schools: Rutgers, North Carolina, Notre Dame
Decision timeline: Friday
Stock report: For years of recruiting is basically done for the Rutgers staff, and now it is time to wait until Friday's 5 p.m. announcement.
Huggins is coming off an official visit to Rutgers, and when he called on Sunday to talk about his official visit to Rutgers, he said it was the last interview he was doing before his announcement, and he wasn't going to talk to anymore coaches before making his decision.
It means Rutgers could have had the last word with him, and the chance to make a last impression.
The Huggins family has always been guarded throughout the recruiting process. Huggins has never named a leader, and to this day knows the most about Rutgers, a school he visited unofficially time and again.
At the conclusion of his last interview, Huggins said, "It just comes back to just trust."
Who knows what will take place during the week contemplation? It will be an insufferable three days for many Rutgers fans to wait on this one.

Rutgers' chances: Strong

Player: Kaleb Johnson
School: Edward H. White (Jacksonville)
Position: Offensive lineman
Schools: Rutgers, North Carolina, Louisville, Miami
Decision timeline: TBD
Stock report: Rutgers' chances in this one could come down to how well coach Greg Schiano does with today's visit to see Johnson and his family. Depending on whom is talking and when, it seems like Johnson could wind up at any of the four schools.
He told after a weekend visit to Miami he was close to committing there, but decided to hold off until the Hurricanes named an offensive lineman coach and he could meet him. Well, ‘Canes coach Al Golden announced Monday that Art Kehoe was the offensive line coach.
However, the delay allowed Schiano to get to Florida and meet with Johnson and his family, and Schiano is a tremendous in-home recruiter, and his presence there gives Rutgers a chance.

Rutgers' chances: A big rally is needed

Player: Marquise Wright
School: Paramus (N.J.) Catholic
Position: Defensive tackle
Schools: Rutgers, Michigan State (and either Pittsburgh or Miami)
Decision timeline: TBD
Stock report: Wright got his Rutgers offer last week and made an official visit over the weekend. He cut his schools to Michigan State and Rutgers after the trip, but Monday told he was contemplating a trip to either Miami or Pittsburgh.
Rutgers made it clear it wants him during the visit, and staying close to home is working heavily in his favor. Wright also has repeatedly said he is fond of his home-state school, but its late inclusion in his recruitment allowed other schools to build strong relationships with him.
Michigan State received a commitment from defensive lineman Brandon Clemons, and Wright said that shouldn't impact his recruitment there.
The one-time Pittsburgh commit said if he makes a trip this weekend, he will announce at some point next week. If he doesn't take a trip, he plans to announce Friday.

Rutgers' chances: Strong

Player: Fou Fonoti
School: Cerriots College (Norwalk, Calif.)
Position: Offensive tackle
Schools: UCLA, Michigan State, Rutgers, Arizona
Decision timeline: Signing day
Stock report: Before his weekend official visit to Rutgers, Fonoti didn't know what to make of the program. After his trip, he is giving the Scarlet Knights strong consideration. Two things are working against Fonoti: distance and weather.
But there is plenty working in Rutgers' favor, including playing time from the beginning and a recent history of placing lineman in the NFL.
He also has some coursework to complete before he is eligible, and cannot get to a school in June. He will spend the week talking with his family, and getting visits from the coaching staff's at the schools he is still considering.

Rutgers' chances: A rally is needed

Player: Max Issaka
School: Woodbridge (N.J.) High
Position:Defensive end
Schools: Rutgers, North Carolina, Michigan
Decision timeline: Within a week
Stock report: Issaka, a Pittsburgh de-commit, was part of the official visit party at Rutgers over the weekend, and had a good time. However, he is also one of the toughest kids to read in the 2011 class.
He told last week he was favoring North Carolina, but Woodbridge coach Brian Russo said it is now "50-50" between the Tar Heels and Scarlet Knights.
Of course, there is a chance for Michigan gets in the mix since Issaka is contemplating a weekend official visit to see new Wolverines coach Brady Hoke and his staff.
