Rutgers' quest to win three straight conference games for the first time in seven years fell during an 8-0 run late in the second half that boosted Cincinnati to a 72-56 win Wednesday at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Scarlet Knights (12-8, 3-5 Big East) were the 13th straight victim to fall to the Bearcats (18-3, 5-3) at home.

Jonathan Mitchell led the Scarlet Knights in scoring with 20 points while Dane Miller (11 points) was the only other Rutgers player to score in double figures. Point guard Mike Coburn was 1 of 6 from the field with four points and four turnovers.

Rutgers was outrebounded 34-24, and shot 1 of 11 from 3-point range.

Rashad Bishop paced Cincinnati with a career-high 20 points and Yancy Gates had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Still, Rutgers led much of the first half, and trailed 31-30 at intermission.

The Scarlet Knights then took a 32-31 lead a few minutes into the second half on James Beatty's basket, but Cincinnati scored the next seven points to take a 38-32 lead.

Rutgers hung tight and cut Cincinnati's lead to 52-48 on a pair of Mitchell free throws with 5:19 to play.

However, the Bearcats then went on an 8-0 run to put the game away, with Bishop doing most of the damage to finish the spurt with a 3-pointer and a dunk to make it 60-48 with 3:24 to play.
