"I can tell you that North Carolina has been added," McKeesport coach Jim Ward said. "We had a meeting behind closed doors, and that is all I can say. The rest stays there."
Simmons now lists Rutgers, USC, Oregon, Pittsburgh, North Carolinaand Texas Tech. In explaining to ScarletReport.com last week about what he wanted in a school, Simmons said playing in a 4-3 defense was important.
Of the six schools on his list, he did not make official visits to Pittsburgh or North Carolina. However, he made unofficial trips to both schools.
Simmons is set to decide Wednesday at 11:20 a.m. at his high school.
"It's a difficult decision, I know," Ward said. "But, ultimately, it's one that he's got to make."
At this point, Ward is helping Simmons through the process, and offering advice as the countdown to his announcement speeds up.
"I told him to shut off the people around you," Ward said. "I told him if you need some guidance, if you have some questions, by all means lean on who you feel the most comfortable with.
"But in the end if you keep getting opinions, and you keep getting calls from coaches, and some of it is negative recruiting, which I frown upon but happens, those things have to be blocked out so you can make a decision with a clear mind."
Ward's role in the process is not to steer Simmons in a direction, but to make sure the proper consideration is being given.
"Facilitating information, talking to him, helping him to stay focused in these kinds of situations," Ward said of his role. "Ultimately, Delvon is going to pick a school that Delvon wants to go to, and I don't want anyone to tell him where he should go because he's the one that has to go there, he's the one that has to feel comfortable.
"You want to try and guide him by providing facts for him, and information that's going to help him, but in the end it's gotta be where Delvon wants to go."
