That will no longer be the case.
ScarletReport.com is unveiling a new feature called "Know the Knights," which will be a daily profile on each Scarlet Knight on the roster and the countdown to the late March start of spring practice.
Fifth-year senior linebacker Manny Abreu is the player profiled:
2011 Eligibility: Red-shirt senior
Ht.: 6-3 Wt: 245
Position: Strong-side linebacker
High school: Union Hill High
Background: Was the No. 2 weakside linebacker in Scout.com's 2007 class. …three-year starter for Union Hill …Made 100 tackles and had five sacks as a senior
Career highlights at RU: Was a co-starter as a sophomore and made 33 tackles, including a then-career best nine against West Virginia in 2008. …Moved from strongside to weakside linebacker in 2009 and played a backup role. He finished with 18 tackles. …Moved back to strongside linebacker and started eight games in 2010. He finished seventh on the team with 48 tackles, including five for loss, and also forced a fumble. …Made a career-high 10 tackles and forced a fumble in the Oct. 8 win against Connecticut. …Injured his knee Oct. 16 against Army and missed two games.
Projected 2011 Role: Prior to 2010 spring practice there was talk of Abreu moving to defensive end, but instead he was shirted back to red strongside linebacker and excelled. He understood how to prepare better leading up to games, and his play became more instinctive on the field.
After he hurt his knee in October, he struggled in coverage and in space the last few games. Healthy, that shouldn't be an issue.
Heading into the spring, Abreu is looking to show why he can be one of the top strongside linebackers in the Big East.
