2012 Recruiting: 25 To Know Outside Jersey

Recruiting of the 2012 class is now underway, and that means plenty of talent is being evaluated. Players will rise and fall as the spring evaluation period takes place and the 2011 season begins, but here are 25 names in states neighboring New Jersey that every Rutgers fan should know.

The 2012 recruiting season is here, and like always, scholarship offers are being tossed around. This year it can be a little more confusing because prospects can no longer receive written offers until Aug. 1 heading into their senior seasons.

ScarletReport.com already provided "25 to Watch" in New Jersey, but now we are branching out into the neighboring states with another "25 to Watch," outside of New Jersey.

Florida recruits, as well as some from neighboring states yet to receive offers, will be addressed in later segments.

Now, though, here are 25 players (in a loose ranking format) every Rutgers aficionado should know:

1. Noah Spence, DE, 6-4, 240, Bishop McDevitt High (Harrisburg, Pa.)
Spence has been on campus and seen the facilities, but getting him will be a tremendous core.

2. Ronald Darby, RB, 5-11, 175, Potomac High (Oxon Hill, Md.)
If you want to dream …dream of this …and think 4.31 speed in the 40 last month in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

3. Cyrus Jones, WR, 5-10, 185, The Gilman School (Baltimore)
With dozens of offers, including Alabama, Penn State and Virginia Tech, he will be difficult for RU to land.

4. Eugene Lewis, WR, 6-1, 180, Wyoming Valley West High (Plymouth, Pa.)
QB in high school will be one of the most sought after players in the northeast, but he did visit Rutgers in August.

5. J.J. Denman, OL, 6-6, 310, Pennsbury High (Fairless Hills, Pa.)
Getting recruited by every major conference. Dad was walk-on at Rutgers and proximity could help.

6. Jarron Jones, DT, 6-6, 3-5, Aquinas-Institute High (Rochester, N.Y.)
Best player in New York could be leaning Penn State's way, but he likes Rutgers.

7. Greg Garmon, RB, 6-2, 200, McDowell High (Erie, Pa.)
Pulling him away from Pittsburgh or Penn State will be a challenge, but Scarlet Knights will try.

8. Desmon Peoples, RB, 5-7, 170, Archbishop Wood High (Warminster, Pa.)
A regular visitor to Rutgers' campus, the Scarlet Knights sit in very good position with Peoples.

9. Drew Harris, RB, 6-1, 200, Downingtown East High (Exton, Pa.)
Downhill runner could move to safety. Offers from South Carolina and Rutgers, which is in very good position.

10. Colin Thompson, TE, 6-5, 255, Archbishop Wood
Can move to OT in college if he adds weight, but with offers from UF, Wisconsin and South Carolina, it will be a battle.

11. Brent Wilkerson, DE, 6-4, 245, DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.)
Went to RU's junior day and since got offered by Illinois, Penn State and Maryland, with more to come.

12. Wayne Morgan, S, 5-11, 19, Erasmus Hall High (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
All the northeast schools offered him, but his strong relationship with RU-bound Miles Shuler could help.

13. Chris Muller, OT, 6-6, 300, Boyertown (Pa.) High
Rutgers got in early with Muller and it could be an asset as his recruitment develops.

14. Frank Taylor, OG, 6-4, 285, Archbishop Wood
This could come down to which Big East schools he feels the most comfortable attending.

15.Josh Stepoli, OT, 6-6, 260, Greenburg (Pa.) Central Catholic High
Offers from Pittsburgh and Rutgers, and this is a battle the Scarlet Knights could have trouble winning.

16. Ian Thomas, WR, 6-1, 187, Franklin High (Reisterstown, Md)
This one could be a sleeper for Rutgers to land as he comes off a 49-catch season.

17. Blake Rankin, QB, 6-4, 195, Bloomsburg (Pa.) High
Has made multiple trips to Rutgers and feels very comfortable around the program.

18. Sam Lebbie, LB, 6-2, 215, DeMatha Catholic
Rutgers jumped on him early and has a good connection with the school.

19. Michael Moore, DE, 6-4, 238, DeMatha
One of the better performers at the U.S. Army combine and attended Rutgers' junior day.

20. Joel Caleb, WR, 6-2, 200, Clover Hill High (Midlothian, Va.)
Offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech will make it very hard to get him out the state.

21. Deontay McManus, WR, 6-0, 209, Dunbar High (Baltimore)
Loads of offers from all conferences but is currently favoring Oregon and Oklahoma State.

22. Ken Ekanem, DE, 6-3, 226, Centreville High (Clifton, Va.)
Rutgers doesn't dip into Virginia often, but he likes the school's history of producing NFL talent.

23. Nyeem Wartman, LB, 6-3, 220, Valley View High (Archibald, Pa.)
The northeast schools are already hitting Wartman, who holds offers from RU, Penn State and Boston College.

24. Brandon Arcidiacono, OL, 6-5, 245, Archbishop Wood
One of the quartet of players from the school to visit Rutgers for junior day.

25. Armani Reeves, WR, 5-11, 170, Catholic Memorial High (West Roxbury, Mass.)
Should be getting his offer from Rutgers as soon as Rutgers gets his tape.
