The 6-foot-6, 295-pound Santarelli was being recruited by the Scarlet Knights long before his solid performance at the New Level Athletics Badger Sport Elite Linemen Challenge on the Rutgers campus.
"Last year I went to the Rutgers Big Man Academy, and I think I did pretty well over there," Santarelli said. "I went (to Rutgers) last year for the spring game. This is my third time coming up here."
Despite the visits to campus, Santarelli is still in the process of learning about the school.
"I don't know that much about it," he said. "The coaches that I met all seem very friendly, and I like that type of atmosphere. But I'm trying to see which other coaches can bring that."
Santarelli, who has a very good frame and moved well, transferred to The Hill School after playing at St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia). He is hearing from Rutgers and Old Dominion, but is hoping a trip around the combine circuit generates more interest.
"(Recruiting) is going pretty slow," Santarelli said. "I really just started. I'm trying to get my name out there and let people know who I am and what I can do.
"I've gotten hand-written letters from Rutgers. They're shown some interest recently. And Old Dominion is also showing me interest."
The only school camp Santarelli has been invited to is at Old Dominion, but that could change after a few more combine events and the spring evaluation period.
And, Santarelli is new to the recruiting process.
"I'm a Pennsylvania guy, so I grew up knowing about Pennsylvania colleges," he said. "But I really don't have a preference because I don't really know much about schools. I didn't take any visits."
