Rutgers Football: 2011 Schedule Announced

Rutgers announced its 2011 football schedule moments ago, and the breakdown is interesting. The Scarlet Knights play 10 games on Saturdays, once on Thursday and once on Friday. Also, the only bye comes in mid-September and the Scarlet Knights play 10 consecutive weekends.

Rutgers is returning to a predominantly Saturday schedule for the 2011 season.

The Scarlet Knights play 10 of their 12 games on Saturdays, open the Big East calendar Oct. 1 at Syracuse, and will not play on championship Saturday for the first time in four years.

The season begins Thursday, Sept. 1, against FCS foe UNC-Central at Rutgers Stadium at 7:30 p.m. before the Scarlet Knights travel to North Carolina for a Sept. 10 contest.

The only bye on the schedule comes Sept. 17, and after that Rutgers plays 10 straight weeks.

Big East play begins Oct. 1 at Syracuse, and the home portion of the conference season starts Nov. 8 against Pittsburgh.

The Scarlet Knights jump out of conference for an Oct. 15 game against Navy, which is the likely homecoming game, before a short turnaround for the lone Friday game, a trip to Louisville Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. on ESPN. That is also the only scheduled ESPN game, but each of the conference games can be picked up by the ESPN family of networks.

The Scarlet Knights host West Virginia (Oct. 29) and South Florida (Nov. 5) before making their new Yankee Stadium debut with a Nov. 12 contest against Army.

The home schedule concludes Nov. 19 against Cincinnati and the regular season ends Nov. 26 at Connecticut.
