The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Denman told ScarletReport.com he made the hour trip north because he wants to know more about the school because Rutgers is high on his list.
"They're up in my top schools, and I hadn't been up there in a while," Denman said of the reason for the visit with his parents. "I thought it was good. I got to know the coaching staff. I've known (assistant) coach (Brian) Angelichio for a long time. I figured I'd build a relationship with the strength and conditioning coach, Jay Butler, and talk to him."
While at Rutgers, Denman also learned how much the Scarlet Knights wants him.
"They said I'm at the top of their board for a big man," he said. "(Offensive line) coach (Kyle Flood) does a good job communicating with his guys. And no matter what, if you make a mistake, he's going to correct it. He doesn't let anything go."
Denman spent much of the practice watching the Scarlet Knights' offensive line, and also got to take in the brief scrimmage moments woven into the afternoon session inside Rutgers Stadium.
Afterward, Denman and his parents had one a meeting with coach Greg Schiano.
"I talked to Schiano at various times during practice, and at the end of the day I talked to him in his office," Denman said. "He said he is going to do everything they can (to recruit me)." Denman is uncertain when he will make a decision, but he has a few ideas.
"Maybe before the season," he said. "But if I'm not comfortable doing it then, I'll wait until after the season."
