Four-star OL Denman Makes Trip To Rutgers

Pennsbury High (Fairless Hills, Pa.) four-star offensive lineman J.J. Denman made an unofficial visit to Rutgers on Saturday. He spoke to about why he made the trip, what he got out of it and where the Scarlet Knights rank among his 25 offers.

Pennsbury High (Fairless Hills, Pa.) four-star offensive tackle J.J. Denman made an unofficial visit to Rutgers on Saturday, and it wasn't a gratuitous one based on proximity or because it is his dad's alma mater.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Denman told he made the hour trip north because he wants to know more about the school because Rutgers is high on his list.

"They're up in my top schools, and I hadn't been up there in a while," Denman said of the reason for the visit with his parents. "I thought it was good. I got to know the coaching staff. I've known (assistant) coach (Brian) Angelichio for a long time. I figured I'd build a relationship with the strength and conditioning coach, Jay Butler, and talk to him."

Denman holds 25 offers, and he said the six schools standing out to him are Rutgers, Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Penn State and Boston College.

While at Rutgers, Denman also learned how much the Scarlet Knights wants him.

"They said I'm at the top of their board for a big man," he said. "(Offensive line) coach (Kyle Flood) does a good job communicating with his guys. And no matter what, if you make a mistake, he's going to correct it. He doesn't let anything go."

Denman spent much of the practice watching the Scarlet Knights' offensive line, and also got to take in the brief scrimmage moments woven into the afternoon session inside Rutgers Stadium.

Afterward, Denman and his parents had one a meeting with coach Greg Schiano.

"I talked to Schiano at various times during practice, and at the end of the day I talked to him in his office," Denman said. "He said he is going to do everything they can (to recruit me)." Denman is uncertain when he will make a decision, but he has a few ideas.

"Maybe before the season," he said. "But if I'm not comfortable doing it then, I'll wait until after the season."
