South Jersey LB Mastromatteo Has Top Three

Holy Spirit High (Absecon, N.J.) linebacker Dan Mastromatteo told he has a top three, and put Rutgers in the lead over Boston College and Cincinnati. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound south Jersey standout also talked about a time frame for making a decision, and whether he will wait for schools to offer before making his choice.

Heading into a weekend trip to State College, Pa., Holy Spirit High (Absecon, N.J.) linebacker Dan Mastromatteo was focusing on a pair of schools in Rutgers and Penn State.

Coming out of the weekend, Mastromatteo added two schools and subtracted one from his focus list.

"My top three right now are Rutgers, Cincinnati and Boston College," said Mastromatteo, who lists the Scarlet Knights in the top spot. "I went up to Penn State (Saturday). It was a pretty good trip. They said sometime maybe late in June (an offer could come)."

However, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound isn't a prospect enamored with the recruiting process, and he is hoping to making a decision sooner rather than later.

And, because of his timetable, Penn State's chances seem fleeting.

"I don't want to wait around for anyone," Mastromatteo said. "If more schools keep offering m, it may make it a little longer, but I don't see it going that much longer."

Mastromatteo holds offers from Rutgers, Temples, Cincinnati, Boston College and Tulane.

The only visit still on Mastromatteo's calendar is April 26 to Rutgers, but recent offers from Boston College and Cincinnati could make him add travel dates to his schedule.

"Cincinnati offered me, and they're connected with me a lot. They send me a lot of stuff," Mastromatteo said. "Boston College, I went up there for a junior day. I'm going to try to get there again, and to Cincinnati."

Rutgers was the first school to offer Mastromatteo, with it coming on junior day. He remains in regular contact with the Scarlet Knights' staff.

"I'm talking to the coaches once a week," he said. "They're telling me to have fun with it and no pressure or anything like that."

However, the recruiting process is not the most exciting thing for the low-keyed Mastromatteo.

"Sometimes it can get a little pressuring, but I'm trying to have fun," he said. "At least I'm getting offers."
