Florida WR McRae Prepping for Summer

Chaminade Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) wide receiver Fred McRae holds seven verbal scholarship offers going into the end of his junior year. Rutgers is one of the schools to offer the speedster, but McRae said he does not know much about the school. Will he visit Rutgers to learn more? ScarletReport.com talked to him to find out ...

When asked what he knew about Rutgers University, Chaminade Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) wide receiver Fred McRae brought up three names — Greg Schiano, P.J. Fleck and Jonathan Aiken.

Of the seven schools that verbally offered McRae a scholarship, Rutgers is one that he admittedly knows little about. But McRae, along with teammate and fellow RU target Orlando David, will come to Piscataway this summer for camp to learn more.

"I'm definitely coming this summer," McRae said. "I want to meet the coaches and get to know the school. I want to see the campus."

Most of what McRae hears about Rutgers comes from Aiken, who played with him for a season at Chaminade Madonna. Aiken himself committed to Rutgers last year while in New Jersey for camp.

"[Aiken] says it's really good up there," McRae said. "It's cold though. He's recruiting me. He loves the coaches and said they were asking about me too."

McRae said he has no real pecking order in terms of school interest, but that Rutgers "could be pretty high."

"I really like their receivers coach, Coach Fleck," McRae said. "I like the way he's recruiting me. He's cool."

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound receiver has offers from Florida International, Illinois, Kansas, Rutgers, South Florida, UCF and West Virginia.

McRae does not have an offer from Texas Tech, but said he is really high on them and hopes to visit TTU and West Virginia in an official capacity this fall. Because he is coming to Rutgers this summer, he does not plan on a second visit to Piscataway once the season begins.

"We're good friends," McRae said. "We might go to the same school, but I don't know. It's something we definitely talk about."
