Williams Talks Importance of Coaching Staff

A month ago, Jones High School (Orlando) offensive lineman Duaron Williams said that Rutgers was "really high" on his list. ScarletReport.com caught up with the 6-foot-4, 296-pound tackle to find out if that was still the case. Come inside and find out where Williams' interests lie.

If anything, Rutgers only climbed higher on Duaron Williams' leader-board. Williams told ScarletReport.com in May that Rutgers was "really high" on his list and nothing has changed as he wraps up his junior year of high school.

Particularly, Williams said the vibe he gets with the coaching staff stands out.

"Even as a recruit, I feel like [Rutgers] is family to me," Williams said. "It's not always about football with Rutgers. I appreciate that."

Rutgers has plenty of connections with Florida athletes and Williams is no different.

Williams met Rutgers commit Kaleb Johnson at a track meet two months ago and said the two are building a relationship.

"When we met, he recruited me a bit," Williams said. "I like him. He's telling me the stuff that's really important to me, about how the Rutgers staff really cares and they treat you right."

Williams said he has good relationships with assistant coaches P.J. Fleck and Jeff Hafley and offensive line coach Kyle Flood.

"They're high on my list because of that connection with the staff," Williams said. "Wherever I go, I want to be around people I can trust. I'm trying to get up there because they're definitely in my top."

Williams hopes to visit Rutgers either this Summer or Fall, he said. He is interested in seeing Johnson and the assistant coaches with which he has relationships in their element in Piscataway.

"Coaches are kind of important," he said. "I want to be around people I know if I'm going to go far away for college. I'm building relationships."

Distance, he said, is not a factor in his college decision.

"I could go anywhere," he said. "If I am going far away, I need that family feeling. … Rutgers has that." Williams said he also has strong interest in Louisville, Alabama, LSU and Miami.
