Rutgers Lands Kicker

Rutgers landed a kicker commitment when this Sunshine State product made a non-binding pledge to the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers wanted a kicker for its 2012 class and landed one Wednesday when Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High's Kyle Federico gave the Scarlet Knights a non-binding oral commitment.

Federico camped at Rutgers last month and earned an offer after his performance. Earlier in the spring he was one of the top kickers at the Auburn campus.

"I just got off the phone with coach (Greg) Schiano to say I am committing," Federico said.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Federico told ScarletReport.com Wednesday morning he was going to commit to Rutgers after enjoying his camp experience, and his visit. As a junior, Federico made 8 of 13 field goal attempts.

The need for a placekicker in the class was huge since San San Te is a fifth-year senior and will use his eligibility up in 2011.

Federico is also a standout soccer player, scoring 13 goals as a junior.
