Does David Still Have Rutgers Interest?

Chaminade Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) tight end Orladno David did not make the trip to Rutgers for camp after previously expressing intentions to attend. David spoke with to explain why he did not make it and if he still has interest in Rutgers among his nine verbal scholarship offers.

Chaminade Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) three-star tight end Orlando David did not camp at Rutgers because of "a scheduling problem," he said. David, however, told he is still "very interested" in what Rutgers has to offer.

"I like a lot about Rutgers," David said. "I wish I could have come this summer. I hear the environment is great. I like the coaching staff and I like the offense. I know they use a lot of different formations and get the ball to a lot of players."

Still rehabbing from a torn ACL, David said he may be better off delaying his visit to Rutgers until he is closer to 100 percent.

For now, David and teammate Fred McRae, plan to take official visits to Piscataway.

"I'm going to take an official visit there," David said. "I don't know when, but I hope I can during the season when we're off. I want to check out a game."

David said he likes the relationships he formed with the Rutgers coaching staff, but that early playing time may be the deciding factor for the 6-foot-3, 240-pound tight end.

"That will be important for me," he said. "It isn't like the No. 1 thing, but it is very important. I have to see and adjust to a different level of football. I know I'll have to work hard and learn what it's like to be a college player."

Recruiting is not at the top of David's mind, he said, because he is still recovering from his torn ACL.

"I feel fine actually," David said. "I can run and do lateral movements. I'm jogging at about 50 percent. It's important to start feeling more confident in my knee.

"I'm not doing too much since I'm not 100 percent right now. I'm just working out. I checked out [Miami] which was good. I liked it there."

Alabama, one of David's nine offers, is likely the only visit on tap for the rest of the summer, David said.

David has no leaders and no timeframe for cutting his list or making his decision. David said he will not do either any time soon.
