JuCo TE Considering Official Visit to Rutgers

Tight end Blake Jackson did not have any offers his first time around. But after time to develop at Scottsdale Junior College (Scottsdale, Az.), the three-star recruit ballooned up to 14 verbal offers. Trying to cut down to five schools, Jackson spoke with ScarletReport.com about Rutgers' chances of making the cut.

Scottsdale Junior College (Scottsdale, Az.) tight end Blake Jackson likes Rutgers, but is not yet positive that Piscataway will be in his post-season travel plans. Jackson, who holds 14 verbal offers, has three definite schools in his final five and wants to decide the other two before planning his remaining official visit.

Rutgers is a top contender to make the cut.

Jackson already officially visited Miami and will take his third, to Tennessee next week and Arkansas Nov. 12.

"Miami was great," Jackson said. "I loved checking out the football facilities and obviously the legacy and tradition is a huge draw. I got to go out to South Beach and see some stuff. It was really a great trip."

After he finishes his season at Scottsdale, Jackson will take two more officials. He is deciding between Oklahoma State, Arizona and Rutgers for those spots.

"It's a school I'm definitely considering," Jackson said. "I want to have my visits and schools all figured out in the next two weeks and Rutgers is a school definitely in there."

Jackson said that since he received his Rutgers offer, he has been in constant contact with coach Greg Schiano. Interested in sports journalism, Jackson said Rutgers' proximity to Philadelphia and New York is a strong, non-football draw.

"There is a lot I like about Rutgers," Jackson said. "It's near New York. It has a great media market, but it's the relationship with Coach Schiano that's great.

"He talks to me a lot about the player that I would be at Rutgers and how they will use me in different way. He's a real guy. He's a straight shooter. He cares about you as a person."

Schiano, Jackson said, is hard after him to visit Piscataway this December.

"I've been talking with Coach Schiano a lot," he said. "We're trying to figure out a good time if I can visit. He really wants me to come see the campus and check out the school. I'm definitely interested in it. I'll know for sure soon."

Jackson will decide which schools make the cut by the end of July, he said.

"I want to have it done and figured out by the end of the summer, so I can focus on school and our season," Jackson said. "In the next week or two, I'll have the rest of my visits set, my final five set and I'll have a true direction of where to look."
