Jersey's Best: Ranking the State, Part I

The camp circuit is coming to an end and training camp is on the horizon. It is the perfect time for ScarletReport.com to unveil it's "Jersey's Best: Ranking the State" feature. Not only are the players ranked, but the interest Rutgers is showing (or showed) is included. Please enjoy Part I of this special feature.

The summer camp and combine circuit is just about over and high school training camp is a few weeks away.

So, it is the perfect time for ScarletReport.com to unveil a three-part series ranking the top prospects in New Jersey's 2012 class.

35. OT Ray Korang, 6-8, 285, Rancocas Valley (Mount Holly)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Temple on June 28. Big frame but sleek, needs to develop strength. Has long reach and decent slide. "I am a big man and I can push people around," he said.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He was on campus and camped, but an offer never materialized.

34. MLB Jazzmar Clax, 5-11, 210, Neptune (N.J.) High
ScarletReport.com says: Is a tackling machine after making 130 tackles, including 10 sacks, as a junior. Top-end speed is his biggest question but understands the game well. "I'm a sideline-to-sideline player, and I can plug the holes," he said.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? There was interest early on, but it faded as the Scarlet Knights indentified other linebackers it wanted.

33. OG Tyler Samra, 6-3, 270, Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Connecticut on May 19. Will play either guard or center for the Huskies after playing on the outside with the Ironmen. Instrumental in helping DBP average 181.2 rushing yards per game.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? The Scarlet Knights showed interest late in the process and he was slated to attend the Big Man Academy, but didn't after committing.

32. DE Malachi Moore, 6-6, 235, Pope John XXIII (Sparta)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Boston College on June 28. Very athletic but raw after making the move from basketball to football. Strength and weight gain are big for his development into a college player. He averaged 5.9 points per game playing for the basketball team.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? Neither side showed much interest.

31. ATH Khalif Herbin, 5-7, 150, Montclair (N.J.) High
ScarletReport.com says: He is dynamic and quick, but size is an issue for many programs. He played quarterback, slot receiver, cornerback, punt returner and kickoff returner for the Mounties and totaled 26 touchdowns and nearly 2,000 yards of total offense.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? Herbin said he was told by Rutgers that his size was the reason the Scarlet Knights cooled on him.

30. WR Malcolm Culmer, 6-1, 185, Willingboro (N.J.) High
Committed to Maryland on June 27. Averaged 27 yards per catch and had nine touchdowns as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? Rutgers didn't show much interest in Culmer.

29. DE Dominic Twitty, 6-2, 260, Rancocas Valley (Mount Holly, N.J.)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Minnesota on July 5. Could wind up moving to defensive tackle if he adds weight, but has to get stronger. Made his commitment before visiting campus.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He was on campus several times and attended practices, but the Scarlet Knights didn't offer.

28. DE Max Valles, 6-5, 210, St. Joseph Elementary and High (Hammonton, N.J.)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Virginia on June 5. Very athletic but needs to hit the weight room hard. Once his body develops, he could be a very good player rushing off the edge and dropping into coverage. Very good explosion helped him to 15 sacks in 2010.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He attended junior day and was on Rutgers' radar, but his pre-camp commitment to the Wahoos kept him from attending Rutgers and earning an offer.

27. TE Dan Crimmins, 6-5, 215, Northern Valley Demarest
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Boston College on July 6. Plays receiver but has the body frame to put on weight and become a tight end. He surpassed 1,000 yards receiver as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He made a visit for a spring practice, but he was below Michael Giacone on the Scarlet Knights' radar and did not get an offer.

26. OL John Ferranto, 6-5, 265, Burlington (N.J.) High
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to North Carolina on July 3. Is the top long-snapper in the state, and that was a big reason the Tar Heels offered. Moves well enough to play guard and is smart enough to play center.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He camped at Rutgers and did well, but the Scarlet Knights didn't offer as they were doing well with other offensive lineman in the class.

25. WR Carlton Agudosi, 6-6, 205, Franklin (Somerset)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Rutgers on May 6. He has a big-body who knows how to use it to shield off a defensive back but needs to refine his running technique to add speed. He had 42 catches for 865 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He committed to Rutgers a day after receiving an offer. He worked at the Rutgers Stadium concession stands and called Rutgers his dream school.

24. DB Kye Morgan, 5-11, 190, Franklin (Somerset)
ScarletReport.com says: He was first being looked at as a running back but schools like him better as a cornerback or safety now. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns and had 89 tackles as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? Rutgers offered and was on him strongly, but that subsided when Davon Jacobs committed a few weeks ago and the Scarlet Knights are no longer recruiting him.

23. MLB Kaiwan Lewis, 6-2, 225, St. Joseph Elementary and High (Hammonton)
ScarletReport.com says: He is getting plenty more interest out of New Jersey than in it after making 80 tackles, including 10 sacks, as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? The Scarlet Knights showed a little interest early but never offered him.

22. ATH Brandon Napoleon, 6-0, 175, St. Peter's Prep (Jersey City)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to West Virginia on June 18. His father, Eugene, played for the Mountaineers. He was recruited as an athlete, but could get a shot at quarterback.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? At one time the Scarlet Knights were his leader, but they pulled back on their recruitment before he committed to WVU.

QB 21. Sean Maguire, 6-3, 195, Seton Hall Prep (West Orange)
ScarletReport.com says: Committed to Florida State on June 1. Is 19-3 as a starter and will get his chance to throw the ball more this coming season. He completed 70 of 141 for 1,161 yards, 13 TDs and 3 INTs as a junior.
What was/is Rutgers' interest? He visited campus and Rutgers was interested, but an offer never materialized and became a moot point after Blake Rankin committed.
