And the Scarlet Knights are willing to wait for the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Thomas to make a decision.
"Rutgers told me they have three spots left, and they'll be holding a spot for me until I'm ready," Thomas said. "Then, when I'm ready, they said they would be happy to have me."
The Scarlet Knights have long been involved with Thomas, who made a pair of visits to campus in the offseason, and he said the knowledge Rutgers is holding a slot for him is important.
"It means a lot," he said. "It means the program really wants you their program. They obviously think I fit the offense, I fit the types of players that they recruit, so it really means a lot to me."
However, he said the reason Rutgers isn't on his official visit list yet is because of his previous trips to the campus and his familiarity with the coaching staff and players.
"I was thinking I might as well save that spot for another place since I've already been to Rutgers twice already," he said. "I've talked to all the coaches, I talked to players, so I don't really think I need to go back. But you never know. I might end up going back."
Thomas continues to stay in contact with Rutgers receivers coach P.J. Fleck and coach Greg Schiano.
"I still talk to (Fleck) a lot, Facebook-wise and on the phone," Thomas said. "I talk to him, and to coach Schiano a couple of times, they also talk to my coach (Anthony Burgos) a lot.
"When he saw me up at a Rutgers 7-on-7, coach Fleck was like, ‘Wow, I didn't know this guy was this big.' He was just in awe."
