Copeland Eyes Announcement Date

Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) wide receiver Travares Copeland is one of two at the position still being targeted by Rutgers. Copeland has taken back-to-back official visits within the Big East, including one to Rutgers the first week of December, and offered an updated timetable for his decision and the schools still in play.

Three-star wide receiver Travaras Copeland may not take all five official visits, but plans to wait until the last second to announce his college choice.

After plans to visit Kentucky fell apart due to a coaching change, Copeland expects at Jan. 16 visit to Florida International to be his last official before announcing his choice on National Signing Day.

"I'm making my decision on Signing Day," Copeland said. "I'm picking it on Signing Day for a reason. It's a special day to have everybody watching me do it."

Copeland took consecutive official visits to Rutgers and West Virginia and said those two schools, along with FIU, are standing out.

"I don't have any leaders, but those are where I've been," Copeland said. "Both of my officials were really nice. I'd be happy playing at either place I think."

The Treasure Coast (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) receiver has been to Rutgers twice, once for camp and once on his official visit. Both visits, he said, went well and he has a "great impression" of Rutgers.

"It was different from home," Copeland said. "Living in Florida, New Jersey is very different. Wherever I feel at home is where I want to be in college, though, and Rutgers was good."

Red-shirt freshman running back Jawan Jamison, from Stark, Fla., hosted Copeland on his Dec. 4 official visit.

"It was cool to talk to him," he said. "He took a similar path to what I might take and it's working for him. He told me how things really are at Rutgers and I had a good time with him and everything."

Copeland also enjoyed West Virginia, he said, but added that he did not consider verbally committing while there.

"Both of the visits were awesome," he said. "West Virginia was cool, but it was pretty cold there. I got to hang out a lot with the players there. That was good."

Copeland said he has not officially cut Kentucky from his list, but has not had contact with them since his recruiting coach was fired.
