LeGrand Wins Fan Vote to Be on SI Cover

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- With a lot of thanks from Rutgers fans and support across the country, Eric LeGrand will be on the cover of next week's Sports Illustrated. After winning a fan vote, LeGrand beat out other moments such as the U.S. women's soccer team's run to the championship and Aaron Rodgers' Super Bowl heroics.

Paralyzed Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand led his team out of the tunnel through two inches of snow against West Virginia two months ago. According to a fan vote, LeGrand's emotional return is the moment of the year and will be on next week's cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine.

LeGrand is the first Rutgers athlete to receive the prestigious honor of being on the cover of Sports Illustrated, flanked in the photograph with close friends Khaseem Greene and Scott Vallone.

In the West Virginia game, LeGrand wheeled his way out of the tunnel alongside former Greene, Vallone, Beau Bachety and Devon Watkis. It was LeGrand's first time on the field during a Rutgers game since his injury the year before at New Meadowlands Stadium.

The rehabilitation process continues to move at an inspiring rate. LeGrand began retraining his legs to walk in September and reached his latest milestone last week. The 21-year old can now sit up on his own. LeGrand has sensation throughout his entire body and can move on a specialized treadmill with the help of trainers.

LeGrand and head coach Greg Schiano will address the honor in a press conference later today.
