Official Visit Primer, Part I

Rutgers will host more than a dozen recruits this weekend on official visits, and the stakes are high. There is a nice mix of committed and uncommitted players, and is here to simplify things with its official visit primer.

It is the biggest recruiting weekend of the season at Rutgers, where as many as 15 official visitors could find their way to campus. To get folks amped up for the big weekend, we provide an official visit primer to introduce the attendees.

Darius Hamilton
Position: DL
School: Don Bosco Prep, Ramsey, N.J.
Height: 6-4
Weight: 245 Position Rank: Five-star, 6th at DE
Schools under consideration: Rutgers, Florida and California
Official visits made: Florida (Dec. 9), Cal (Dec. 16)
Official visits on schedule: Miami (Jan. 27.)
What this visit means: Hamilton has long held Rutgers in high regard. He has built great relationships with the players, the coaching staff and the support personnel within the program. One thing Rutgers does very well is official visits, and this could be the final part of a years-long recruiting.
Hamilton will announce Jan. 31, and told it would come down to Rutgers, Florida and Cal despite the Miami visit on his schedule.

Ryan Brodie
Position: OT
School: Long Branch (N.J.) High
Height: 6-5
Weight: 305 Position Rank: Three-star, 42nd at OT
Schools under consideration: Rutgers and Connecticut
Official visits made: UConn (Nov. 11), WVU (Dec. 9)
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: Brodie has been around the Rutgers program for years, and has strong relationships with everyone in it. He has also seen the facilities, the academic presentations and so much else.
Like Hamilton, this visit is about deepening his bond with the coaches and players in the program before he turns his attention to Wednesday's 2 p.m. announcement.

Menelik Watson
Position: OT
School: Saddleback College, Mission Viejo, Calif.
Height: 6-8
Weight: 285 Position Rank: Three-star
Schools under consideration: Rutgers, Florida State, Auburn, Washington and others
Official visits made: Washington (Dec. 9), Auburn (Dec. 16), Florida State (Jan. 14)
Official visits on schedule: TBD
What this visit means: Give Rutgers a puncher's chance in this one. The official visits are huge, and Watson should have a great time. This is where Rutgers can talk to him about playing immediately, familiarity with the region (he played hoops at Marist) and can make contacts with a bunch of committed players.
As has said for some time, getting him away from Florida State could be tough, but the visit could change Rutgers' position in this one.

Chris Muller
Position: OT
School: Boyertown (Pa.) High
Height: 6-6
Weight: 290
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: A few things are big in this visit, including Muller's ability to speak with non-committed players about joining him at Rutgers and sharing the vision of the coaching staff. Muller is a charismatic kid, and he can go a long way in swaying other recruits.
The sidelight is whether he can take down the Grease Trucks in the Fat Sandwich challenge. He said he was saving it for official visit, and he plans to take a shot at downing the five sandwiches in the 45-minute time limit.

Leonte Carroo
Position: WR
School: Don Bosco Prep, Ramsey, N.J.
Height: 6-2
Weight: 200 Position Rank: Four-star, 11th at WR
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: This is all about Carroo speaking with other recruits to further the bond the class. He can be the maestro of the group, and is close with Hamilton. There is a chance for everyone to come together and talk about making Rutgers a national power, and Carroo has the charisma and profile to pull things together.
