Official Visit Primer, Part III

Rutgers hosts more than a dozen recruits this weekend on official visits, and the stakes are high. There is a nice mix of committed and uncommitted players, and ScarletReport.com is here to simply things with the final part of its official visit primer.

It is the biggest recruiting weekend of the season at Rutgers where as many as 15 official visitors could find their way to campus. To get folks amped up for the big weekend, we provide an official visit primer to introduce the attendees.

J.J. Denman
Position: OL
School: Pennsbury SHS (Fairless Hills, Pa.)
Height: 6-6
Weight: 310
Scout.com Position Rank: Four-star, No. 17 at OT
Schools under consideration: Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Rutgers
Official visits made: Pittsburgh (Jan. 13)
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: The very fact that Denman decided to make the trip to Piscataway this weekend shows how much work the coaching staff and commits put into the process. First committed to Penn State, then Wisconsin, Denman is now looking at both Pittsburgh and Rutgers.

The four-star tackle is friends with Rutgers commits Chris Muller and Blake Rankin and has a good relationship with the coaching staff and family that went to Rutgers. With National Signing Day less than two weeks away, Rutgers remains in the running for Denman and can go a long way to swaying him with a good weekend on the Banks.

Michael Giacone
Position: TE
School: St. Peters Prep (Jersey City, N.J.)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 230
Scout.com Position Rank: Three-star, No. 28 at TE
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: Giacone hosted head coach Greg Schiano and assistant Jeff Hafley for dinner less than a week ago and will spend the weekend with the staff and his future teammates on his official visit.

For Giacone, the weekend provides him a chance to spend quality time with former high-school teammates Savon Huggins and Keith Lumpkin and learn first-hand about what they went through during their first college semester.

Brandon Arcidiacono
Position: C
School:Archbishop Wood (Warminster, Pa.)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 250
Scout.com Position Rank: Three-star, No. 9 at C
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: "Arch" verbally committed shortly after a summer unofficial visit to Rutgers with his family. The athletic center became the second from his high school (Desmon Peoples) to join the Rutgers Class of 2012.

On this visit, Arcidiacono will get a chance to spend quality time with offensive line coach Kyle Flood and talk to uncommitted linemen Denman and Ryan Brodie about why he chose Rutgers.

Julian Pinnix-Odrick
Position: DE
School: Montclair (N.J.)
Height: 6-5
Weight: 265
Scout.com Position Rank: Three-star, No. 72 at DT
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: Pinnix-Odrick has not been to Rutgers nearly as much as other local recruits because of schedule conflicts. Montclair played the majority of its games on Saturdays this season and went undefeated until the state-title game, meaning he did not have opportunities to visit for games after committing over the summer.

Pinnix-Odrick told ScarletReport.com he plans to use this weekend to introduce himself to the rest of the Class of 2012 and catch up with coaches Schiano, Hafley and Phil Galiano.

Ruhann Peele
Position: WR
School: Linden High School (N.J.)
Height: 6-1
Weight: 185
Scout.com Position Rank: Three-star, No. 150 at WR
Schools under consideration: Committed to Rutgers
Official visits made: None
Official visits on schedule: None
What this visit means: Peele has been to Rutgers just once since the start of school last Fall and the first member of the Class of 2012 is excited to get back on campus.

Peele shut himself off from recruiting after his commitment to focus on getting the grades he needs to qualify for Rutgers and the process is going well for him so far. In addition to meeting other commits and seeing receivers coach P.J. Fleck, Peele said he hopes to meet with academic staff members and prepare for enrollment this summer.
