Temple head coach Steve Addazio is expected to speak with Rutgers today about the vacant head coaching position, sources said. The one-year head coach of the Owls is one of athletic director Tim Pernetti's top targets to replace Greg Schiano, who left yesterday for the head coaching position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Addazio, who went 9-4 in his first year at Temple, has ties to New Jersey dating back to hit days as a Syracuse assistant coach and spent multiple championship years with Urban Meyer as a Florida assistant.

In just one year at Temple, Addazio secured seven verbal commitments from New Jersey recruits and eight from Eastern Pennsylvania.

Pernetti told ScarletReport.com yesterday that ideal targets are current college football coaches with the goal of hiring a replacement by Feb. 1 because of National Signing Day.

Less than 24 hours later, Pernetti has one interview set up with Addazio and is targeting other college head coaches, including FIU's Mario Cristobal and Vanderbilt's James Franklin.

All three targets come from backgrounds as offensive coaches, along with interim head coach Kyle Flood and assistant Frank Cignetti.
