Major Update in Rutgers Coaching Search

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti began his second wave of coaching interviews today and significant progress has been made in the search, sources said. For the latest information and which coaches are still in the race, premium members can read all about it below.

The Rutgers coaching search is down to FIU head coach Mario Cristobal and interim head coach Kyle Flood, sources said. After interviewing a series of candidates over the weekend, athletic director Tim Pernetti has seen Cristobal and Flood emerge, according to sources.

The decision could come within the next two days and is expected before Wednesday's National Signing Day. According to the source, either coach will run a pro-style offense and strive to keep many assistants on-board from the previous regime.

Flood interviewed for the job yesterday and spoke with the media during the basketball game. He has been a member of the Rutgers staff since 2004 and took over interim duties for Greg Schiano Thursday afternoon.

Cristobal was a Rutgers assistant in Schiano's early days before moving on to time with Miami and taking over the FIU program five years ago.
