Rutgers, Arkansas Set for Home-and-Home

Rutgers announced today that Kyle Flood's first year as head coach will include a road trip to Fayetteville, Ark., to play the Arkansas Razorbacks. Rutgers then gets Arkansas home at High Point Solutions Stadium in 2013.

Coach Kyle Flood and athletic director Tim Pernetti delivered today exactly what Rutgers fans have been clamoring for — a premium non-conference game.

Rutgers officially announced the addition of Arkansas to the 2012 schedule in a home-and-home series beginning in Fayetteville, Ark. The Scarlet Knights travel south on Saturday Sept. 22 to face the Razorbacks and follow it up with a Saturday Sept. 21, 2013 home game.

"It is a constant priority to secure marquee scheduling opportunities for our football program and our fans," Pernetti said in a statement. "This home-and-home series with Arkansas clearly illustrates another enhancement of that strategy. We are excited to have the Razorbacks as the first-ever SEC opponent to play at High Point Solutions Stadium and this agreement further enhances our future non-conference game schedule which includes Penn State, Miami and UCLA."

Rutgers has not played an SEC opponent since the epic 37-34 comeback rally against Vanderbilt in 2004. The Scarlet Knights are 5-11-2 all-time against the SEC and have never had a home game on campus, previously playing at the Meadowlands.

The Rutgers schedule has one more opening after West Virginia left the conference last week. A schedule cannot be announced until that situation, and the makeup of the 2012 Big East football conference, is resolved.
