Callinan has been aware of a Rutgers verbal offer for more than a year and other schools are now taking notice of the 6-foot-4, 200-pound wideout that now holds three verbal offers.
"It's getting pretty busy for me," Callinan said. "I'm pretty focused on recruiting right now because things are going to pick up going into the spring evaluation period. It's going pretty good."
Callinan now has verbal offers from Boston College and Connecticut and is receiving interest from Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, South Carolina, Wisconsin and West Virginia, he said.
"I'm taking it slow," Callinan said. "I don't really have a top or anything. I'm kind of waiting for spring evaluations to start up and for coaches to come down. I don't want to have any regrets. I want to take every option into account."
Playing at St. Peters Prep, Callinan has former teammates at many of the schools showing him interest.
Callinan played with Sheldon Royster of South Carolina, D.J. Singleton of Wisconsin, Brandon Napoleon of West Virginia, Michael Giacone of Boston College and Keith Lumpkin and Savon Huggins of Rutgers.
"They talk to me every once and a while about how everything is at their school," Callinan said. "They won't pressure me or anything, so they'll help me when I need it. They're definitely pushing for me a little bit. It's really a benefit to have players at all those different school."
Callinan has no formal plans to make a college choice, but said it will not happen during his senior season.
If he finds a school before the season starts, he will make a commitment. Otherwise, Callinan plans to wait until after the season.
"I've been thinking about that a lot," Callinan said. "I would probably say, this isn't definite, but maybe late in the summer or the middle of the summer. It will either be that or after the season. If I'm unsure going into the season, I'm going to put it off so I can focus on the season."
