Teel chooses Rutgers

Jersey's top quarterback chooses the Scarlet Knights. In this interview Mike Teel talks about his choice.

Mike Teel (QB, 6'4"-210lbs, 4.82 forty) from Don Bosco Prep is arguably the best quarterback in the state of New Jersey. Last season, he threw for 2183 yards on 179 attempts for 110 completions. He led Don Bosco to the Parochial Group IV State Championship. For his efforts, he was named first-team AP & Star-Ledger All-State. He was also named to the AP Junior All-American team.

Teel has verballed to the Scarlet Knights.

I caught up with Mike and asked about his verbal Rutgers.

What made you verbal at this time?

"I just felt comfortable down there. The things that they told me, the things that they showed me. Coach Schiano has done a great job recruiting since he has been there. He is going to turn that program around. I didn't go the camp. I just decided right now because it just felt right. I went to a bunch of schools in the Big East and the ACC to check them out and Rutgers just felt right."

Did the recent defections from the Big East concern you?

"At first it did but I talked to my coach about that. Boston College, Syracuse and Pitt are still in the league. They'll probably add a team from Florida. They are still a very competitive league."

What offers did you receive?

"Rutgers and  Wisconsin offered me. Boston College, Virginia, Maryland and Michigan State all told me that they would offer if they liked what they saw in my senior year."

What will you bring to Rutgers?

"Hopefully, some more Jersey kids. Hopefully others will follow me and start something great at Rutgers."
