Turay Commits to Rutgers

The fireworks keep flying for Rutgers, which picked up a verbal commitment today from explosive Barringer (Newark, N.J.) defensive end Kemoko Turay. Turay picked up a verbal scholarship offer at camp last week and all it took was a visit to campus the next week to sell him on his home-state school.

Barringer (Newark, N.J.) defensive end Kemoko Turay is as under-the-radar as it gets in recruiting Division I football players, but he has the athleticism to back it up.

Offering his verbal commitment today to Rutgers, Turay is the fifth defensive-line prospect to join the Class of 2013.

Turay received a verbal scholarship offer out of camp last week after displaying off-the-wall athleticism in the one-day setting. A track star as well as football, Turay brings uncanny physical ability to defensive end. At 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, he runs in the 4.6 range in the 40-yard dash and is the New Jersey Group 1 champion in the triple jump and long jump.

In the triple jump and long jump, Turay has personal bests of 45-2.5 and 21-11.5 respectively.

On the football field, however, Turay has zero experience, which has kept him under-the-radar as a prospect.

Though highly impressive on his brief camp circuit, Turay did not play football during his sophomore or junior seasons, but is set to do so in the fall for Barringer. Of African descent, Turay is new to football and gives the Scarlet Knights a tabula rasa athlete with which to mold into a defensive end.

Turay's story has many similarities to first-round draft pick Muhammad Wilkerson. A Linden High School (N.J.) product in 2007, the two-star recruit did not receive heavy Rutgers interest with a lack of high-school experience. After an impressive career at Temple, the only other BCS school involved in Turay's recruitment, Wilkerson heard his name called early in the NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

Turay will suit up for Barringer this season, but attends Newark Tech, which does not have a football program.
