The Scarlet Knights broke in at No. 23 Sunday on the heels of their 35-26 win Saturday night at Arkansas.
The Scarlet Knights are also tied with Virginia Tech at No. 25 in the USA Today/coaches poll.
"I really don't have a reaction to it," Rutgers first-year coach Kyle Flood said. "I think the fans will probably enjoy it but for us it's only four games. It's great to be in the position we're in right now, but the most important thing we can do is do a great job on the bye week and hopefully try to get ready to win another big game the following week."
Rutgers was last ranked in the Nov. 15, 2009, AP poll. They were No. 25 and traveled to Syracuse and lost 31-13.
The Scarlet Knights are 4-0 for the first time since 2006, when they began the season 9-0 and finished the year ranked No. 12.
It is the first time Rutgers is in the coaches' poll since Sept. 30, 2007, when it was No. 21.
