Quick Hitter: Rutgers Visits RB Commit Hicks

Palmetto (Fla.) running back Josh Hicks became the earliest verbal commitment to Rutgers in more than five years. Still the lone 2014 commit, Hicks is keeping close tabs on the program since his decision .

Seeing a Rutgers running back declare for the NFL was major cause for excitement for Palmetto (Fla.) 2014 commit Josh Hicks.

Hicks watched a lot of Jawan Jamison before committing to Rutgers during his junior season. he became a fan of his fellow Florida running back when Jamison broke 1,000 yards and helped Rutgers win a share of its for Big East title.

"I knew he had the potential," Hicks said. "He's a great back and he deserves to play on Sundays. ... I like that I can get the same opportunity [at Rutgers]."

Hicks received a visit this week from Rutgers tight ends coach Darnell Dinkins, his recruiter, and the two are becoming close since Hicks visited Rutgers last summer for camp.

"Coach Darnell [Dinkins] is great," Hicks said. "He really cares about you."

Hicks recently participated in the Under Armour All-American combine for underclassmen and is quickly gaining attention elsewhere. Hicks named Miami, Kentucky and LSU as schools picking up his recruitment, but said he remains committed to Rutgers.

"They're good schools, but Rutgers is my No. 1," Hicks said.
