Guard Rector Discusses Rutgers Offer

South Kent Prep (Conn.) guard Shane Rector recently added a Rutgers scholarship offer and is approaching the final stages of his commitment. Returning home from a weekend tournament in Springfield, Mass., Rector discussed his thoughts on Rutgers and the other schools in contention.

South Kent Prep (Conn.) guard Shane Rector can sense his recruitment reaching an end. Getting late in the process, the 6-foot-1 guard is focused on Rutgers, Providence and Arizona State with a decision coming soon.

"It's getting late in the process, kind of to that point where the schools that you have are what you're going to decide between," said Rector, who sat out a weekend tournament with a leg injury. "I like a lot of them, but I'm still open to new schools coming in too. I haven't formally cut my list, but I'm getting to that point."

Rutgers was the most recent school to offer Rector, doing so earlier in January.

"It's always nice to stay close to home," Rector said on receiving a Rutgers offer. "I don't feel like I have to stay close to home, but if I can it's definitely a plus. That was exciting about Rutgers. It's a good option to have."

Conference affiliation and proximity to home are the top sellers for Rector when it comes to his Rutgers interest. Rector does not have visit plans set up, but said Arizona State and Providence round out the top of his interest.

"Arizona State is in a good conference and they have an aggressive style of play that I like," he said. "I don't mind the nice weather either and it's a good conference. I know I would be able to play there."

Rector checks in as a 6-foot-1, 177-pound point guard.

"I think I'm a good facilitator for my team," he said. "I can do whatever is needed that day to pick up a win, just scoring or getting my teammates the open shots. I'm a good creator off the dribble for my teammates. If they're open I'm going to find them."
