Severe Recaps Visit By Jordan

Eddie Jordan was introduced as Rutgers men's basketball coach late Tuesday afternoon, and a few hours later he was with Christ The King (Queens, N.Y.) guard Jon Severe for an in-home visit the eve before Severe announces his decision.

A few hours after officially being introduced as Rutgers' head coach, Eddie Jordan left "The Barn" and went to meet with the top uncommitted prospect on the Scarlet Knights' radar.

On the eve of announcing his college decision, Jon Severe, a shooting guard from Christ The King High in Queens, N.Y., met with Jordan and Rutgers assistant coach Van Macon. Severe's AAU coach, Shandue McNeill, was also at the meeting.

"He's a good guy," Severe said of Jordan. "He's smart and he knows a lot of stuff. He knows a lot of people. He said he wants to bring in talent and toughness. He says you can't win without talent. He says I'm the No. 1 player in New York and I'll be his first recruit."

Severe, who is 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, said hearing where he ranked on Rutgers' recruiting list was important.

"That's the No. 1 thing," he said. "Why would you want to go to a school if you're not (No. 1) on their list? If your gut tells you something else, then I don't think you should want to go there."

When asked if Jordan gave an impressive presentation, Severe said "yes," and added he connected well with Jordan.

Adding intrigue to the situation is Severe made an unofficial visit to Rutgers over the weekend to visit at the request of a close friend.

"I'm friends with (Rutgers big man) Kadeem (Jack) and he wanted me to come up," Severe said.

Severe is set to make his decision Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., and Rutgers is in contention with Fordham, West Virginia, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh for his services.

"I don't know where I'm going yet," he said. "I will know at 2:30 (Wednesday)."
