Okoro to Transfer to Rutgers

Iowa State guard Nkereuwem Okoro will transfer to Rutgers. The former St. Raymond's (New York) star is headed closer to home to finish out his college career in Piscataway, N.J., under newly hired head coach Eddie Jordan.

Rutgers gets a big boost to its backcourt with guard Nkereuwem Okoro set to transfer in from Iowa State, sources told ScarletReport.com.

Okoro is the fourth addition to the program since the April 23 hiring of Eddie Jordan as head coach. Okoro is expected to finalize the transfer by signing paperwork soon.

A former 1,000-point scorer at St. Raymond's (New York), Okoro left Iowa State after one season for the chance to play closer to home after multiple family tragedies.

Okoro has three remaining years of eligibility and is expected to apply for an NCAA waiver for immediate playing time, sources said.

Okoro, who goes by "Kerwin," played just 32 minutes over nine games as a freshman for the Cyclones while dealing with family issues mid-season. At St. Raymond's, Okoro averaged 15.5 points per game as a senior and won a New York CHSAA Class AA state title.
