Hermann Selected as Rutgers Athletic Director

The Rutgers athletic director search has come to an end with Julie Hermann selected by president Robert Barchi and a six-person committee. Hermann is the executive senior associate athletic director at Louisville and is expected to be confirmed and introduced today.

A three-week search ended Wednesday morning with Louisville executive senior associate athletic director Julie Hermann selected to take over as Rutgers athletic director, sources said.

Hermann was one of three finalists identified during the weekend and emerged as the selection over Wisconsin deputy athletic director Sean Frazier and Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh, who pulled out of the race.

With the Executive Athletic Committee deadlocked through Tuesday night, a call took place Wednesday morning before a final decision was made.

Hermann has 16 years of experience within the Louisville athletics department, working under 2007 athletic director of the year Tom Jurich. She served in a variety of roles at Louisville, including senior woman administrator, marketing and supervision of non-revenue generating sports.

Hermann's athletic administrative background comes primarily in women's basketball and volleyball, where she coached before moving into her office role. Hermann was a harbinger in the Louisville women's basketball team's emergence as a national power.

Hermannn must receive Board of Governor's approval before the move becomes official, but it is not expected to be an issue, sources said. A press conference to introduce Hermann is expected Wednesday.
