Pope John 2014 Duo Returns to Rutgers

Sparta (N.J.) Pope John XXIII duo Noah Brown and Ryan Izzo returned to Rutgers Thursday after spending all day Tuesday on campus. With another chance to look in-depth at the program Brown and Izzo left after practice to prepare for another day of high school workouts.

Rutgers had another opportunity to host top New Jersey recruits Noah Brown and Ryan Izzo Thursday when the duo drove down to campus for practice at the indoor facilities.

The Sparta (N.J.) Pope John XXIII duo attended practice this time with underclassman teammate Sonny Abramson, who holds a Rutgers offer as a quarterback.

"It was good, [we] just saw practice," Izzo said. "I came with Sonny and Noah. It was a good time. I enjoyed it just as much as the other visit."

Brown and Izzo decided to return because of the easy access at Rutgers and mutual interest in coach Kyle Flood's program.

"To be honest, they're both narrowing down right now and Rutgers is right in the top two or four with both of them," said Pope John XXIII head coach Brian Carlson. "It was a thing where they finished [our] practice today and kind of all just decided to head down to Rutgers again."

Brown and Izzo have discussed playing together and are both high on Rutgers and Virginia Tech. But committing to the same school is not a requirement or a deciding factor.

"There are a lot of reasons for them both to like Rutgers," Carlson said. "They like that it's close to home. This week, they went down twice with no problem. It's only about an hour away. Rutgers offers a lot to them and it's another opportunity to play in the Big Ten."
