Bedell Feels Good about In-Home with Flood

The search for a defensive coordinator was a key conversation point between Rutgers coach Kyle Flood and defensive end commit Donald Bedell during a snowy in-home visit Tuesday evening. What was Flood's message regarding the long search with visits coming this weekend? Bedell discussed the message and his thoughts on the situation with ScarletReport.com.

The in-home visit for Rumson (N.J.) Fair Haven defensive end Donald Bedell gave him a chance to discuss Rutgers with head coach Kyle Flood. Bedell, who remains solidly committed, said his main concern was the ongoing search for a defensive coordinator.

After meeting with Flood and special teams coach Joe Rossi, he feels confident in the answer he received.

"Obviously there are questions about the coordinators and that was really my main concern," Bedell said. "I feel good about it. They said the only reason we don't have one right now is that they're trying to make the absolute perfect decision.

"Coach Flood doesn't want to hire someone and then have a second thought about it. He wants it to be undoubtedly the guy that will lead us to Big Ten Championships. Obviously that makes sense that he wants to get the right guy and it should be before I sign. That's really important to me because I want to build a relationship with the defensive coordinator."

Bedell and his family hosted Flood and Rossi for an evening visit, which led to a satisfied feeling for all parties, he said. Bedell earned a Rutgers offer and committed shortly after an impressive showing at the summer Big Man Academy.

"It was great," Bedell said. "I'm happy they were able to make it, honestly. There's a blizzard going on right now. We talked about how the future of Rutgers is going to be. We talked about what it will be like when I get there. We talked about Signing Day and everything. I'm just really looking forward to it."

Bedell will be one of many official visits set to see Rutgers this weekend.

"It's going to be awesome," Bedell said. "I know a bunch of the guys that are already enrolled up there like Logan Lister and Kam [Lott]. I'm looking forward to talking to them and the guys coming up on a visit. I know [Sidney] Gopre is going this weekend or next weekend. I'm looking to meet up with Jimmy Hogan. It's going to be fun."

Bedell is a three-star prospect and the No. 96 defensive end in the Scout.com final position rankings. He chose Rutgers over Connecticut and Temple.
