Quick Hitter: Ford Adds Rutgers Offer

Gibonston (Fla.) East Bay three-star defensive end Marques Ford added his first Big Ten offer this week when Rutgers came through with one. Ford has two BCS offers and six overall heading into the spring.

Gibonston (Fla.) East Bay three-star defensive end Marques Ford is the newest Rutgers offer recipient, and he met it with enthusiasm Monday.

Ford received word of a verbal scholarship offer from his head coach, and is eager to learn more about the program.

"I was excited about the offer," Ford said. "It really is a great opportunity."

Ford has not made plans to visit Rutgers, but said he is consistently in contact with the coaching staff.

Defensive line coach Jim Panagos recruits East Bay.

"Not much yet," Ford said when asked what he knows about Rutgers. "I'll be researching tomorrow night. ... I know they have good fans and popularity."

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect recently added Rutgers and Wake Forest offers because of "my pass rush and my motor," he said.

"He's get off is terrific," Easy Bay coach Frank LaRosa told Scout.com. "Marques also has a good swim move and his motor doesn't stop running ever. This is a high effort kid. He just needs to continue to grow in the weight room. For a long, lean kid he has a strong lower body. He already squats (parallel) 475-pounds. But he does need to get stronger, play with better leverage and hit the target with his hands."
