Rutgers is Offer No. 7 For Nicholson

Rutgers offered another talent in the Sunshine State Monday night in the form of Riley Nicholson. The Seminole (Fla.) Osceola three-star linebacker spoke in-depth with about his offer moments after he got the news from the Scarlet Knights coaching staff.

Riley Nicholson has been hungry for a Rutgers offer since his first conversation with the staff more than three months ago. The Seminole (Fla.) Osceola three-star linebacker got his wish Monday night in a conversation with assistant Jim Panagos.

Nicholson received a verbal offer from Rutgers, which is his seventh so far.

"I'm excited," he said. "I've been waiting for an offer for a while now. I've been talking to coach Panagos for about three months now, so it's exciting."

Nicholson said the majority of his Rutgers knowledge comes from conversations with the coaching staff. The Scarlet Knights multimedia information helped build an interest in the program.

"I know quite a bit because [Panagos] has been sending me videos about them," Nicholson said. "I think it might be a pretty good fit for me, actually. … The coaches are down-to-earth, down home guys. It fits my lifestyle the way they do everything up there. I'm going to go up there and visit this summer, so I'll see what happens then."

Nicholson planned to visit this summer before landing the offer, but he is close to setting it in stone after Monday night.

"I'm going to be honest, I've been waiting for this one for a while so it feels good," he said. "It's a relief that I got it, because I like Rutgers a lot."

Rutgers is recruiting Nicholson as a middle linebacker, he said.

"They like the way I play out in space and the way I have a high motor," he said. "I'm quick to the ball, and they liked my junior film a lot."

Nicholson holds seven offers, including Syracuse, Minnesota and Southern Miss. The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker will be at Wake Forest this weekend, where he is expecting his eighth offer.
