Rutgers Visit Goes Well for Shorts

Woodbury (N.J.) athlete Troy Shorts took in Rutgers during a busy Saturday filled with underclassman visitors. Shorts broke down his visit, and favorite parts of seeing the Scarlet Knights up close.

Woodbury (N.J.) athlete Troy Shorts enjoyed his Rutgers visit enough to schedule at least two more this year. Shorts aims to camp at Rutgers this summer, and see his first game at High Point Solutions Stadium when Rutgers joins the Big Ten.

Shorts did receive a verbal offer during his visit, but will camp this summer to showcase his skills.

"I talk to [defensive backs coach Darrell] Wilson a lot," Shorts said. "We had a good conversation. He told me to come down to their camp in June in the summer time, trying to earn an offer."

Shorts spent approximately six hours at Rutgers, where he received a tour of the facilities and spent in-depth time with members of the program.

"I liked it," Shorts said. "They made me feel comfortable there. The coaches and stuff were great to get to know.

"I learned about the fact that they focus everything on family. The whole team is accountable for each other and all of the coaches are accountable for the team. Together, they're a family."

What stood out for Shorts?

"My favorite part was seeing the weight room and how they're dieting and making sure they eat right," he said. "I was seeing how they work hard in their off season and during the season. It was really fun to see.

"I thought the Rutgers app was really cool. The jerseys were awesome. We went around their locker room and got to try on the stuff. I really liked that. … I liked their black gear a lot."

Shorts will visit Temple this week, and get to both Penn State and South Carolina in the next month.

Delaware, ODU and Pittsburgh are also showing Shorts interest.
