Rutgers Offers 2016 Mitchell

The next Mitchell out of Cedar Creek -- 2016 receiver Ahmir Mitchell -- received a Rutgers offer Saturday during an unofficial visit. The younger brother of 2013 three-star quarterback Damon "Duwop" Mitchell, Ahmir Mitchell broke down offer No. 3 in an conversation with

Rutgers was supposed to be the first offer for 2016 Cedar Creek (N.J.) receiver Ahmir Mitchell, but it was contingent on getting him on campus to do it face to face.

Mitchell finally made the trip Saturday, and the coaching staff ensured he left Piscataway with a good feeling and a verbal scholarship offer.

"It was great," Mitchell said. "It was a good visit to Rutgers. I've came up to campus a bunch of times before, but this one was really good. They're recruiting me hard again, and I finally got the offer. That was a blessing."

Virginia and Old Dominion were the first two offers for Mitchell, but Rutgers was first to issue one in person.

"I was kind of expecting it, but it was still good to have it come because I've been to Rutgers a bunch of times," Mitchell said. "I really like it there."

Mitchell was a part of a large group visiting campus, but was pulled out for a private tour and eventual meeting with coach Kyle Flood. Flood extended a verbal offer at the end of the meeting.

"He gave me the great news while I was in his office," Mitchell said. "I was really excited to hear it from him."

Mitchell is the younger brother of Arkansas quarterback Damon Mitchell, who picked the Razorbacks over Rutgers at the end of his recruitment.

"My whole family knows Rutgers and the coaches from my brother," he said. "It's really no different with me because they would still come talk to me when they were visiting my brother. The coaches that recruited him have a good relationship with my family and still have a good relationship with my brother even after he went to Arkansas."

Rutgers is recruiting the 6-foot-3 Mitchell to play receiver.

"They told me receiver," he said. "I like receiver, and that's where they put me whenever I'm at camps and stuff. … I wouldn't say that's definitely the position I want to play in college. I'm open to a lot of it."

Mitchell's Cedar Creek team attended Rutgers passing camp last summer, and could return in2014. Regardless, Mitchell plans to return to Rutgers at least once during the summer.
