Rutgers was the first to offer Sheppard in the recruiting process, and remains "in the top" of his schools in consideration.
"It was a good visit," he said. "It was a very good visit. I'm very comfortable at Rutgers."
Sheppard said he could be closer to a decision, but felt no pressure to make a commitment when meeting with the Rutgers staff.
"No, there wasn't much about that," he said. "It was more about just getting me more around campus and showing me their school. I liked it a lot."
A 1-on-1 pregame meeting with head coach Kyle Flood was the highlight of the day for Sheppard.
"He said I'm the kind of player at my position that is very rare," Sheppard said. "They want me to come join their team because I'm a rare talent at my position. That was coach Flood's message."
Sheppard kept a close eye on the linebackers and defensive ends during the spring game, and enjoyed the three-sack performances from Kemoko Turay.
"I got to see their defensive schemes and how they play and use every position," he said. "I liked the coaches because they were very fired up the whole game."
